Getting to Know Dr Ward

What is your journey into psychiatry, and what inspired you to specialise in ADHD?
I earned my medical degree (MB BCh BAO) in Ireland and have over a decade of experience in psychiatry across crisis inpatient and recovery-oriented outpatient settings. I specialise in the care of individuals with complex, severe, and enduring mental illness, as well as ADHD. My clinical work is grounded in a holistic, biopsychosocial framework, integrating biological, psychological, and social perspectives to support sustainable recovery. With further educational attainments in my Post Graduate Mental Diploma. I am interested in improving whole person wellness.
What is your philosophy or approach when it comes to treating ADHD?
My approach to ADHD is always patient centred, grounded in a biopsychosocial framework. I address attention, impulsivity/ hyperactivity and comorbidities while considering social and psychological contexts. I combine evidence-based medication with practical strategies and psychoeducation to support daily functioning. My goal is to empower patients with insight and coping skills for sustainable recovery.
How do you see telepsychiatry improving access to ADHD care?
It addresses many of the issues faced regarding difficulties with service provision for people in certain areas, which is fundamental unfair. It allows people to reach out and get the help they require in what can be frustrating and debilitating waiting lists.
What's one thing you hope your patients feel after their first session with you?
Understood, Hopeful and Optimistic for the Future.
What would you like to share with your patients as you begin this journey with FasTreat?
You have likely been thinking about doing this for a long time. Why not reach out now? It could be the first step in the direction of improving things. Procrastinating can be exhausting.
If you could describe your approach to ADHD care in three words, what would they be?
In one sentence, what does ADHD support mean to you?
To me, ADHD support means providing personalized guidance, practical strategies, and compassionate care that empower individuals to manage symptoms, build resilience, and thrive in daily life.
