What to expect:
- Appointments are typically 45 minutes long.

- Initial assessment appointments are for diagnostic evaluation only, which means medication is not prescribed during this session.
- If additional information is needed, a brief follow-up may be arranged.
- If diagnosed, you will be moving on to the medication initiation session to discuss your treatment plan with clinician if clinically appropriate.
If you are diagnosed with ADHD and/or another mental health condition, and medication is considered clinically appropriate, your clinician may refer you to our titration team.
- You will need to book a Medication Initiation Appointment to discuss your treatment and medication options with a clinician from our titration team.
- Your clinician will discuss the treatment options available to you, which may include medication, lifestyle changes, and other supportive interventions.
- If medication is appropriate and safe, your clinician may initiate or adjust your treatment and send the original paper prescription and/or electronic prescription directly to the pharmacy.
- Once the pharmacy receives your electronic prescription, they will send you a payment link. Your medication will be dispensed after payment has been received and the pharmacy has received the original paper prescription.
- You will be enrolled in ongoing care, allowing your clinician to monitor your progress, adjust your medication if needed, and provide continued support throughout your treatment.
- FasTreat can provide a diagnostic report summarising your diagnosis and assessment findings, which you may choose to share with your GP or other healthcare professionals.
If a diagnosis is not made, your clinician will explain their findings and, where appropriate, recommend alternative next steps and further assessment.
Part II. Availability & Eligibility
- FasTreat is available to adults (18+) living anywhere in the UK, including England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
- All appointments are conducted online, so you can access our services no matter where you are based.
- This can be especially helpful if you have mobility concerns or are facing long NHS waiting lists.
- We support adults who are:
- Concerned they may have ADHD.
- Already diagnosed with ADHD.
- Seeking help for related mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, or sleep difficulties.
FasTreat is a private healthcare service, which means it is not funded by the NHS. All assessments, appointments, and treatment are self-funded. Medication costs are paid separately to the pharmacy and may vary depending on the medication and dose prescribed.
Although we operate privately, we are committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based care. All assessments are carried out by UK-registered clinicians, and our treatment plans follow recognised UK clinical guidelines. Our focus is on safe, personalised care and ongoing support — not just a one-off appointment.
We work alongside the NHS and it can be a helpful option if you are facing long NHS waiting times or prefer private treatment. Where appropriate, we can also support Shared Care with your NHS GP by providing clear clinical documentation and ongoing review information. Please note that acceptance of Shared Care is always at the discretion of your GP practice.
If you are looking for more information about Share Care, please find in the following session "Can my NHS GP take over my treatment after I start with FasTreat?"
Once your appointment is booked, the time is reserved exclusively for you, and your clinician has been scheduled in advance. As a result, we may be unable to offer a refund in certain circumstances.
If you contact us more than 48 hours before your appointment:
- You can reschedule your appointment free of charge.
- Or you can cancel your appointment and receive a full refund.
If you contact us within 48 hours of your appointment:
- Unfortunately, your appointment fee is non-refundable, as your clinician's time has already been reserved.
- If you cancel or reschedule your initial assessment, we'll still provide a £20 FasTreat credit to use towards a future booking.
At FasTreat, your care is delivered by a consultant-led, multidisciplinary clinical team with dedicated experience in adult ADHD care.
Our clinical team includes:
- Consultant psychiatrists
- Psychiatrists
- Nurse practitioners
- Prescribing pharmacists
All initial assessments and diagnoses are carried out by GMC-registered medical doctors, ensuring high clinical standards and robust diagnostic decision-making.
Once you book your appointment, you’ll receive the name, title, and registration details of your assigned clinician, so you know exactly who you’ll be meeting.
FasTreat clinicians provide compassionate, judgement-free care through a structured, stepwise pathway. Care is built around continuity, with your clinicians working together to monitor your progress over time. For questions or support, you can reach out via secure messaging or book follow-up appointments. You’re never navigating your ADHD care alone.
FasTreat works alongside your GP to support safe, well-coordinated ADHD care.
As a CQC-registered private clinic, all FasTreat assessments are conducted by GMC-registered clinicians and follow UK clinical standards. This means our diagnostic assessments and clinical documentations are recognised as valid medical records and are generally accepted by employers, universities, and other institutions.
Where available, we incorporate information from your existing NHS care, such as a Summary Care Record. This helps our clinicians understand your medical history and ensure your care is appropriate and safe. If you do not have these records, you can still proceed with assessment.
If you wish to involve your GP further, such as through a Shared Care Agreement, this is typically dependent on your GP’s individual policies and discretion. If your GP is open to shared care, FasTreat can help facilitate this process by providing clinical documentation and coordinating communication. Simply let our support team know if you would like assistance with this.
While FasTreat does not replace your GP, we aim to complement NHS care by providing timely, specialist ADHD assessment and treatment, with coordination and continuity of care wherever GP involvement is helpful or preferred.
Part III. Diagnosis & Evaluation
FasTreat ADHD assessments follow established clinical standards and evidence-based diagnostic guidelines, including DSM-5 criteria and internationally recognised psychiatric practice frameworks. Our evaluation process is designed to provide a comprehensive clinical assessment equivalent to what is performed in many outpatient psychiatric settings.
Assessments typically include:
- Structured intake forms and validated symptom questionnaires to evaluate attention, executive function, and functional impairment.
- A detailed clinical interview, including review of current symptoms, childhood history, medical and mental health history, and impact on work, education, and daily functioning.
- Screening for related or overlapping conditions, such as anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, substance use, or bipolar disorder, to ensure diagnostic accuracy and safe treatment planning.
For most adults, a comprehensive clinical evaluation conducted by a qualified clinician is considered the standard and clinically appropriate method for diagnosing ADHD and initiating treatment.
Formal neuropsychological testing is not routinely required for ADHD diagnosis, but may be recommended in specific situations—such as complex diagnostic presentations, suspected learning disorders, legal or academic accommodation documentation, or when additional diagnostic clarification is needed.
Yes. Even if you were diagnosed elsewhere, FasTreat still needs to complete a standard assessment before taking over your care. This allows your clinician to:
- Confirm your current symptoms and functional impact.
- Review your previous treatment history and any side effects.
- Check for other conditions that might affect your care.
- Ensure your diagnosis and medications remain appropriate and safe.
You can upload any prior reports or documentation (medical history, previous diagnosis letter, etc). Your clinician will use them to streamline parts of the evaluation where possible, but they will still need to get to know you and your current situation directly.
Yes. Many people come to FasTreat with questions about ADHD. A full psychiatric assessment can still be very helpful even if ADHD is not diagnosed. Sometimes we find that:
- Another mental health condition, such as anxiety, depression, or a sleep problem, may be contributing significantly to your symptoms; or
- There may be no clear psychiatric diagnosis, but reassurance, clinical context, and practical guidance are still valuable.
At FasTreat, you’ll be supported by experienced, licensed clinicians with expertise in ADHD and broader mental health conditions. Our team takes a holistic approach, recognising that symptoms can overlap across different diagnoses. If your assessment does not result in an ADHD diagnosis, we can still support you with appropriate guidance, treatment recommendations, or ongoing care tailored to your needs.
If a diagnosis is not made, your clinician will:
- Explain the assessment findings.
- Discuss other possible explanations for your symptoms.
- Suggest appropriate next steps, which may include alternative treatment options at FasTreat.
Our aim is to make people feel their assessment has provided clear answers and value, regardless of the final diagnosis.
In some cases, your clinician may decide that a second opinion would be helpful before confirming a diagnosis or treatment plan. This can happen if:
- Your symptoms are complex or overlap with other conditions.
- There is limited childhood evidence available.
- Further clarification is needed to ensure diagnostic accuracy.
- There are significant risk factors or safeguarding considerations.
If this happens:
- You will be informed clearly and transparently.
- Your case may be reviewed by a senior clinician or psychiatrist.
- You might be transferred to another clinician to have a second opinion session.
- We may be requested to provide additional information (e.g. school reports, family input, GP records).
Once your assessment is completed at FasTreat and the clinician’s notes have been finalised, your clinician will issue a full, signed diagnostic report. This will be securely shared with you via the consultation section of your patient portal.
We can also assist with requests for additional medical letters, such as workplace or study accommodation letters. These requests will be reviewed by your clinician, who will determine whether the letter can be supported based on your clinical circumstances. These can be requested through the letters section of your portal. Please note that an additional processing fee may apply depending on the type of letter requested.
After your assessment, you will receive a full, signed diagnostic report in your portal once your clinician note is finalized. You can share this directly with your NHS GP, and we can also provide any additional clinical documentation if needed.
All FasTreat assessments are carried out by qualified, UK-registered clinicians, and our reports are formal medical documents that are generally recognised and valid.
However, whether your NHS GP accepts the diagnosis for Shared Care or NHS prescribing is entirely at the discretion of your individual GP practice. We cannot guarantee acceptance, as policies vary.
If your GP is open to Shared Care, we will provide the necessary clinical information and support the process as much as possible to help facilitate the arrangement.
You can find more information related to Shared Care Agreement in the following section "Can my NHS GP take over my treatment after I start with FasTreat?".
Part IV. Medication & Treatment
There are two main types of ADHD medication. Your clinician will recommend the best option for you based on your symptoms, medical history, and how you respond to treatment. Nothing is prescribed automatically. You will always be involved in the decision.
- Stimulant medications are usually the first option tried. They work by increasing the levels of dopamine and noradrenaline in your brain. These are the chemicals that help you focus, pay attention, and control impulses. Stimulants do not sedate you or slow you down. For most people, they sharpen focus and reduce mental “noise.”
There are two main groups of stimulants:
- Methylphenidate-based medications (brand names include Concerta, Medikinet, Equasym, and Ritalin). These come in short-acting and long-acting forms. Your clinician will explain which is most suitable for your lifestyle and symptoms.
- Amphetamine-based medications, including lisdexamfetamine (brand name Elvanse) and dexamfetamine (brand name Amfexa). Elvanse is a long-acting medication that is commonly used when methylphenidate has not worked well or has caused side effects.
Non-stimulant medications are used when stimulants are not suitable, not effective, or not well tolerated. They work differently and may take longer to show a benefit. Options include:
- Atomoxetine (brand name Strattera). This works on noradrenaline and is taken daily. It can take 4 to 6 weeks to reach full effect.
- Guanfacine prolonged-release (brand name Intuniv). This is less commonly used in adults but may be considered in specific circumstances.
Your clinician follows UK clinical guidelines, including NICE guidance (NG87), when recommending treatment.
Side effects vary from person to person and depend on the type and dose of medication. Most side effects are mild, occur early in treatment, and often settle within the first few weeks as your body adjusts.
Common side effects (often settle with time):
- Reduced appetite, particularly in the first few hours after taking medication. This is the most frequently reported side effect. Eating a good breakfast before your dose and having a larger evening meal can help.
- Difficulty falling asleep. Taking your medication earlier in the day or switching to a shorter-acting formulation can help. Discuss this with your clinician rather than skipping doses.
- Headache, usually mild and often resolving within the first week or two.
- Mild stomach discomfort or nausea, particularly if medication is taken on an empty stomach.
- Dry mouth.
Less common side effects:
- Feeling more anxious or on edge. If this persists beyond the first week, let your clinician know.
- A faster heartbeat or a slight increase in blood pressure. This is why your blood pressure and heart rate are monitored during titration.
- Mood changes, including feeling flat or irritable. This can sometimes indicate the dose is too high.
- Changes in bowel habits.
When to seek urgent medical help:
Contact 111 or go to A&E if you experience chest pain, difficulty breathing, a very fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, or thoughts of harming yourself. These are rare but require immediate attention. Important: Do not stop your medication suddenly without speaking to your clinician. If side effects are troublesome, your clinician can adjust the dose, change the timing, or try a different medication.
Titration is the process of finding the right dose of medication for you. It is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Everyone responds differently, so your clinician will start you on a low dose and increase it gradually over several weeks.
During titration, you will have regular check-ins with your clinician to discuss how you are feeling, whether your symptoms are improving, and whether you are experiencing any side effects. You might also be asked to monitor your blood pressure and heart rate at home.
Titration typically takes 4 to 8 weeks, though it can take longer. The goal is to find the dose that gives you the best symptom control with the fewest side effects. Once your dose is stable, you will move into ongoing monitoring.
FasTreat does not dispense or ship medication directly. Instead, we partner with a network of pharmacies across UK that dispenses medication, which allows:
- Faster processing due to our established end-to-end workflow.
- Reduced delays, as prescriptions are sent directly to a pharmacy familiar with our system.
- Streamlined communication between clinic and pharmacy.
- Tracked delivery for secure and reliable dispatch.
- Less administrative burden for you, helping ensure a smoother experience from prescription to receiving your medication.
- Convenient home delivery through our partner pharmacy, with no pick-up required.
When it's clinically appropriate, your FasTreat clinician will write a prescription and send it to the pharmacy. The pharmacy is responsible for dispensing your medication and arranging pick-up or delivery.
Before your clinician issues prescription, you need to finish your medication initiation session. Here's a brief process of getting your prescription and medication:
- Before issuing a prescription, please ensure you have uploaded the required health records, so the clinician can confirm it is safe for you and rule out any medication risks.
- Once the clinician issues the signed prescription, it will be posted to our partner pharmacy in 2-3 working days, subject to delivery, because some ADHD medications are controlled drugs and require an original hard copy prescription to issue. In the meantime, you will receive the payment link of medication from the pharmacy.
- Once payment is made and the original hard copy is received, your medication is dispatched via tracked delivery, usually within 2 working days but subject to the delivery.
- If the whole process goes well, the full process typically takes up to 7-10 working days from appointment to delivery.
If you have questions regarding to the price of medication, please find more details in the following sections "How much will ADHD medication cost each month?".
Medication is never mandatory at FasTreat. Your clinician will discuss the treatment options available and help you choose the approach that best suits your needs, preferences, and individual circumstances.
If you prefer a non-medication approach, we offer ADHD Coaching and Therapy to help you develop practical strategies for managing everyday challenges, including organisation, time management, productivity, routines, and accountability.
You can discuss your treatment goals and non-medication options during a follow-up appointment with your clinician, even if you decide not to start medication.
Part V. Ongoing Care Management
The FasTreat membership programme is for people who choose to continue with treatment after their assessment. It provides structured, ongoing support rather than just a one-off appointment, so your care can be safely monitored and adjusted over time.
As a member, you’ll receive access to:
- Personalised treatment and medication management with a dedicated care team.
- Secure messaging with your clinician and support team within safety guidelines.
- Regular follow-up appointments and symptom monitoring are available as part of your care, with a member exclusive price at £89 per visit.
- Prescription renewals and pharmacy coordination where appropriate, with medication fees paid directly to the pharmacy.
- Member-only resources and educational materials.
- Invitations to webinars and community events.
This programme ensures you to have consistent support and professional oversight throughout your treatment journey.
If you prefer to pause or cancel your FasTreat monthly plan, this means:
- We can no longer provide clinical supervision or issue prescriptions.
- You are no longer able to access your portal.
- You will not be able to obtain prescriptions unless you have a GP who is willing to take over your prescribing immediately. In practice, most GPs will only consider this once you have completed titration and your medication is stable.
If you feel that your treatment has stabilised, you can join our Shared Care plan. We can arrange an end-of-titration review and provide your GP with a formal stabilisation confirmation letter and clinical summary. Please note, the acceptance of shared care is not an obligation, but we will help you by providing any needed information to increase the likelihood of your GP accepting Shared Care.
You can find the related information regarding to shared care agreement in the following session "Can my NHS GP take over my treatment after I start with FasTreat?"
Yes, this may be possible through a Shared Care agreement with your NHS GP.
Shared Care can only be considered after you have completed titration period and your medication is stable, which typically takes 3-6 months. It cannot be arranged before this stage.
Before requesting Shared Care, we recommend checking with your NHS GP whether they are willing to accept a Shared Care Agreement. To initiate the process, we must receive a confirmation email directly from your GP practice confirming their acceptance. Once this has been received, we can begin preparing your Shared Care documentation.
If your GP is open to Shared Care:
- FasTreat will complete your assessment, diagnosis, and medication titration privately.
- Once your medication is stable, your clinician may conduct an End-of-Titration Review if clinically required (£89). We will then prepare your Shared Care documentation (£100 one-off fee), including the Shared Care Agreement (SCA) paperwork and Stability Confirmation Letter to your GP.
- Your GP will review the information and make the final decision. Acceptance of a Shared Care Agreement is entirely at the discretion of your GP practice.
If Shared Care is accepted:
- Your GP will take over routine NHS prescribing once Shared Care is in place.
- You will have a specialist follow-up review with our clinician every 3 months to monitor your treatment and ensure it remains safe and effective (£169/quater).
- After each review, we will update your GP with the relevant clinical information to support ongoing prescribing and ensure your medication is managed safely.
- Please note that attending these follow-up reviews is part of the FasTreat Shared Care process. If these reviews are not completed in line with FasTreat policy, the Shared Care arrangement may need to be paused until the required clinical review has taken place.
If Shared Care is declined (either initially or after review):
- You can continue treatment privately with FasTreat under our ongoing care service.
- We will support you in discussing alternative options where appropriate.
Please note that Shared Care is never automatic and always depends on your individual GP practice policies.
Part VI. Pricing, Insurance & Payments
FasTreat is a private service, and payment is made directly by the patient at the time of booking.
We’re happy to provide detailed receipts and invoices that you can submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. However, coverage depends entirely on your individual insurance policy.
We recommend contacting your insurance company in advance to confirm:
- Whether ADHD assessments and treatment are covered.
- Whether online/virtual consultations are eligible.
- If you need pre-authorisation before booking.
- What documentation they require for reimbursement.
While we can supply the necessary receipts, we’re unable to guarantee that your insurer will reimburse the cost.
FasTreat is a private healthcare service and is not funded or covered by the NHS or any public health scheme.
This means:
- You are responsible for the full cost of assessments, appointments, and treatment.
- Fees are not reimbursed by the NHS.
- Your clinician will not bill the NHS or any public health body on your behalf.
Choosing FasTreat means you are voluntarily accessing private care. You are under no obligation to proceed, and you are welcome to explore NHS services if you prefer.
The cost of ADHD medication varies depending on:
- The specific medication prescribed.
- The dosage required.
- The pharmacy dispensing the prescription.
During the titration phase, costs may fluctuate slightly as doses are adjusted to find the most effective and tolerable level.
As a general guide, private ADHD medication in the UK typically ranges from £70 to £170 per month, but this can vary.
If you make transition to a Shared Care arrangement with your NHS GP, your medication may then be prescribed under the NHS, meaning you would only pay the standard NHS prescription charge (if applicable).
